Selected Testimonies The dazzling success of the Gamelatron can be found not merely in the jaw-dropping technical elegance of a sophisticated robotic gamelan orchestra, (which is just unbelievable to see in action) but in the beautiful compositional sensibility that Zemi17 intuitively expresses with his unique instrument. The performance by Zemi 17 and the Gamelatron was a standout of the 2010 Pulse Art and Technology Festival. A packed auditorium of participants of all ages responded enthusiastically and stayed to ask questions and examine the instruments afterwards. This boundary crossing performance will please lovers of new music, traditional Gamelan, technology and performance art. The Gamelatron at Boom Festival 2010 was one of the best sound installations we had so far. It captured perfectly the Boom's essence of merging the sacredness of the past with the celebration of technology of the present and future. Looked like it has always been part of the festival, such was the harmony between the Gamelatron, the Boom spirit and the Boomers. Gamelatron was a hub of sacredness, it gave the festival a contemplative yet playful space where people could feel something noble and meditative. We loved it! The gameltron is a refreshing combination of technical ingenuity, creativity, and solid musicality. This impressive sight enables Zemi17 to command an orchestra's worth of instruments, creating a unique outlet for his deep knowledge of gamelon music to shine. First off, Taylor makes your head shake! How the hell does one manifest such a genius creation? The Gamelatron is beyond words; it is pure magic! It transports us to another realm! The experience of this visionary work of art inspires and invigorates the soul! It pulls you in, deeper and deeper! And if your lucky enough to experience Taylor & the Gamelatron together, you will hear a story that points to future realms of consciousness. Simply put, Taylor is a genius and is operating from within an expanded paradigm of thought. You might say; I'M A FAN! The Gamelatron is amazing! It was such a revelation to see it installed in Deborah Yoon's Hivemind sculpture at FIGMENT! The Gamelatron and the sculpture worked together brilliantly, in an amazing collaboration between different artworks that were never designed to work together. I've seen the Gamelatron a few times since, but I can't shake the memory of the first time I saw it at FIGMENT... It's an incredible piece of work, creating music that sounds both essentially human and profoundly non-human at the same time. I worked extensively with artist Taylor Kuffner in an international capacity in 2010. I was amazed time and time again at the profound effect this composer's work has upon all kinds of people. It was an honor to create spaces to house The Gamelatron. The unique sounds and compositions created by The Gamelatron instantly fill a space with the feeling of reverence. Silence and contemplation are common reactions I've witnessed. The Gamelatron is one of the most creative and interesting live music projects I have ever witnessed. It was a tremendous honor to have the Gamelatron have its west coast premier at the 8th Annual Joshua Tree Music Festival. In an environment so wide open and occasionally hostile, the Gamelatron provided a sonic sanctuary for those in search of relief from crowd, from sun, and on occasion from themselves. The robotic instrument achieved a great feat; to accentuate silence through melody. It (The Gamelatron) was incredible, not only the fantastic realization of the tech stuff which was awe inspiring in itself, but the presentation in general and especially the music - the actual notes. It was really masterful. I was so knocked out by the whole thing. |
