Reyongan Gede in the Enchanted Forest

Dates: March 9 - 18, 2012
Location: The Enchanted Forest, Oltorf St. Austin, Texas
Description:
Set in Austin's Enchanted Forest during the SXSW conference March 9 - 18, this installation was mounted in a mini bandshell of red painted play wood, old floor boarding and a pieces of a painting by the LA artist Shrine old wood fence door. Original compositions triggered by a custom-made arcade button MIDI controller cased in bamboo and sugar palm ply wood box.

The Reyongan Gede installation featured a Balinese Reyong (12 kettle shaped horizonal hanging gongs) with Gong Agung, Kempur, Klentong, Kempli and Ceng Ceng from a Gamelan Keybar ensamble outfitted with custom steel mounts and robotic mallet counter- parts. Reyongan Gede is a subsection of one of the complete traveling Gamelatron ensambles. Compositions (ranging from 2 - 5 minutes in length) were triggered by pressing an arcade buttons on the lotus flower mandala on the central alter. The center button puts the installation in a "Clock Mode" loop. You can stop any composition by pressing the red stop button in the bottom left corner.
